As we all are getting dumped on by Mother Nature the boys of summer open up with pitchers and catchers Sunday, a sign of spring for all of us?
Mother Natured decided it was time to bring the mother load on top of all of us here in the northeast and I mean a massive dumping of the white stuff.
The Red Sox open up camp for all pitchers and catchers on Sunday at Jet Blue Park, Fort Myers Florida. Some of the pitchers to keep an eye on this spring to see a complete change in their skills and abilities with a massive improvement from last season will be Jon Lester, John Lackey, and Daniel Bard. With John Farrell now at the helm of the team, things are going to be a lot different then under good old Bobby V, for the better no doubt.
Young Guns in the red sox farm system to keep an eye on are Ruby De La Rosa, Clayton Mortenson, Allen Webster, and Steven Wright. Add a closer like Hanrahan, set up man Andrew Bailey, with Beslow,Uehara,Aceves,Morales,Miller the Red Sox Bullpen and potential future starters is looking very strong for the season at hand.
Let’s take a look around the Diamond and see who’s going to be where,
1st Base-Mike Napoli with Lyle Overbay as a platoon back up. -With the combination of these 2 guys should be a solid position for the sox this year.
2nd Base-Dustin Pedoria, we all know what Dustin can do when healthy and fired up for a new season, which he is, should be a comeback season of big numbers for Pedoria this year.
Shortstop-Stephen Drew, no not JD Drew, although he will be wearing the same number as his brother, not the same guy. Stephen brings strong defensive skills to the position and has a high on base percentage, with a decent bat, should be help for this year’s team.
3rd Base-Will Middlebrooks-get ready Boston for Middlebrooks to put himself on the map as a force to be feared. Will, should have a great year showing off his exceptional skills at the corner position and his powerful bat.
Catcher-this is a interesting position to look at, with Salty and new comer David Ross, sorry folks, Lavanway will be primarily playing in Pawtucket this season to improve his skills, unless the red sox pull off a trade in the foreseeable future, which I can’t see happening. Both are decent player, Ross the veteran with solid defense and leadership abilities. Salty swings with a lot of power, looking forward to seeing what both guys do for the team this season.
Next week I will take a look at the outfield and the bench players…
